The whole last decade can be called as the “age of legals”. Consumers, suppliers and manufacturers always try to find a way how to fulfil common demands and needs in a legal way. The start impulse was banning the Ecstasy and Mephedrone through the whole world, especially in the U.S. and EU (United Kingdom). People have been always making up a new way to bypass the law (recall the Great Depression) – nowadays young people want to get high legally and safely.
There are several products on the market that can provide a better mood, mild mind or stimulate you. Must note that governments always try to ban these supplements as much as they can but consumers and producers are fortunately one or two steps ahead. It´s quite difficult to distinguish between drugs and medical supplements for example – the border is sooo thin..
Most effective banning attempts are based on listing some disallowed substances that drugs -or- highs can contain. Thus, “Legal Highs” can be legal in several countries and in the rest of countries a possession and/or distribution is illegal. These substances are in addition separated into several classes – for example, in the UK there are following groups from the most dangerous to the least ones:
- Class A drugs – Morphine, “Magic Mushrooms”, Cocaine, Ecstasy …
- Class B drugs – Amphetamine, Cannabis (Cannabinols), Mephedrone …
- Class C drugs – Ketamine and a lot of (***)zepams (stimulants)
One example for all – the Magic Mushrooms were banned in 2005 (UK) because of hallucinogenic psilocin contained. But this attractive notation remains popular and new legal shrooms or plants are meant with this term – perhaps the most popular Amanita Muscaria (Fly Agaric) and others.
There are still several “Party” drugs or pills based on both herbal or artificial substances allowed and you can find many reports or news about their abuses. Let´s mention the 2 most controversial:
GBL (industrial cleaner) - doesn´t contain banned ingredients but the chemical processes in a human body will create the active substance, a common “date rape” drug that is on the banned list.
BZP (worming treatment for cattle) – a substitute of banned ecstasy.
If you think of trying some Legals, be aware that you definitely shouldn´t mix them with alcohol or another legal highs at once, it can cause you serious physical problems. A conclusion of this article should be that the contest among the government and drug developers still continues and the developers/producers still win. I am curious how will the situation look in the following years, we all will see…
Next time, I´ll try to make an interview with a friend of mine that used to be addicted to a cocaine and just legal highs helped him to leave it and he slowly starts to live the real life, very interesting story.
